Pilot Photonics’ gain switched comb laser used to create a 608 Gbps Superchannel.

Pilot Photonics and their partners at Dublin City University and IIT Madras have co-authored a paper to be presented at the 2020 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO). The paper presents the transmission of a 608 Gbps optical superchannel achieved using Pilot Photonics gain switched comb source technology. In the first ever demonstration of CO-OFDM using a gain switched comb, the work used a low linewidth 8-channel comb laser with 20GHz channel spacing. The authors modulated each channel with a CO-OFDM signal of 19GHz bandwidth and carried out superchannel transmission over 25 km. CO-OFDM offers excellent flexibility, and high spectral efficiency, ideal for multiplexing into a superchannel using a flexible comb source. It is a promising approach for flexible optical networks.

For challenging photonics applications where control of Laser properties is critical, Pilot Photonics provides a unique suite of Photonic IP blocks to build solutions from “Photons to Systems”.

The conference is live-streamed from May 11th to 15th, 2020.
