Pilot Photonics Secures Further Seed Capital

Pilot Photonics has announced additional investments into the company of more than €700k with the seed round closing in July 2019. The investment was led by new CEO William Oppermann and supported by a group of Angel Investors as well as early Pilot investor, the AIB Seed Capital Fund, managed by Dublin Business Innovation Centre (DBIC).

The investment comes on the back of a number of significant wins for the company including a new €600k contract with the European Space Agency, and a €2.3m project as part of the Irish Government’s Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund (DTIF), which the company leads along with partners Dublin City University and Trinity College Dublin.

Pilot has developed a type of laser known as an optical comb laser, using state of the art semiconductor processing known as photonic integration. The technology can be used across a whole spectrum of applications, including optical telecommunications environmental monitoring, and self-driving cars.
